TITLE: Instructional Aide
(Preschool)
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 60 college credits or passing score on the ParaProfessional Assessment Test
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month position; teacher calendar; 9 holidays
FUNCTION: Assist the Preschool teacher
EVALUATION: Performance in this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board Policy, administrative directives, and be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the classroom teacher in review and reinforcement activities.
- Assists the students in maintaining positive behavior and on-task attention.
- Assists the classroom teacher in fulfilling her instructional obligations to certain individuals or groups by:
- Accompanying the students to classes and programs.
- Assisting children in completion of assignments, etc.
- Assists the teacher in utilizing audio-visual and technological equipment.
- Monitors the class while the teacher is in conference in the classroom or working with a group in the classroom.
- Assists the teacher in preparation of special projects, bulletin boards and programs.
- Assists in the supervision of lunchroom and playground as necessary.
- Accompanies students to and from the bus.
- Assists students with self-help skills if needed.
- Assists therapists during large group instruction.
- Assists students with organizational skills.
- Performs other related duties and activities as assigned, consistent with position of special education aide and consistent with the duties of school aide.
- (HS) Assists the certificated Special Education Teacher in individual program prescribed by the Child Study Team – especially basic reading and mathematics.
- (HS) Assists the certificated Special Education Teacher in helping students with work assigned during regular High School and Vocational School classes.
- (HS) Assists the Special Education Teacher in providing instruction in applicable life skills in areas such as careers, appearance, grooming, etc.
- (HS) Assists the certificated Special Education Teacher in the orientation of Special Education students new to the High School.
- (HS) As directed by the certificated Special Education Teacher, provides a “home base” and a “sympathetic listener” to students in the program.
- (HS) Is sensitive to student behavioral changes for early detection/identification of possible problem areas.
- (HS) Performs all other duties and activities as directed by the certificated Special Education Teacher and consistent with the duties of school aide.
