TITLE:       District Media Specialist

 

QUALIFICATIONS: New Jersey Certification

 

 

 IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Building Principal, or designated representative to the Principal. (Depending on the school or unit.)

 

 

 

SUPERVISES: Classroom Students

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position

 

 

 

FUNCTION: To maintain the school media program in cooperation with Principals, staff and students which will accomplish the educational objectives of the school.

 

 

 EVALUATION: Performance in this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with State statutes and rules, Board policies, administrative directives, and will be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement between the Board and the Association.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DISTRICT Media Specialist

 

 

1.Plans, both a program of study and lessons in research skills, which meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

 

2. Develops, proposes, and maintains a balanced, relevant collection through ordering, cataloging, processing, inventory, weeding and updating.

 

3.Maintains professional resources for staff and performs general reference and bibliographic services through traditional and electronic resources.

 

4.Maintains public program on media center utilization and informs students and staff of new acquisitions.

 

5.Performs ongoing evaluation in the light of objectives and makes program modifications, including emerging technologies. Advocates the joy of reading.

 

6.Assists students as the need arises in locating educational resource and leisure materials including on-line resources.

 

7. Prepares an annual circulation report for the library including suggestions for improving library services. Maintains appropriate records and submits required reports within designated time limits.

 

8. Supports the district’s philosophy of education and the district and schools' instructional goals and objectives.

 

9. Develops effective procedures for the operation and management of the media center, including electronic databases.

 

10. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.

 

11. Helps to coordinate classroom work with the library media program by providing expertise in the organization, utilization and evaluation of materials and technologies for the delivery of information and instruction.

 

12.Participates in curriculum development and in the selection of book, equipment and other instructional materials.

 

13. Works toward professional growth and meets the role model standards of a professional educator.

 

14.Maintains cordial and workable professional relationships with other members of the professional and support staff and with students, parents and community members. Confers, as necessary and/or desirable, with students and parents to foster a constructive student-librarian and parent-librarian relationship.

 

15.Adheres to and promotes the philosophy and objectives of the school, the administrative staff and the Board of Education and interprets the policies and programs of the school in a positive and constructive manner.

 

16.Assumes duties and responsibilities as listed in the West Deptford Technology Backup Plan.  (High School only)

 

17.Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the administrative staff in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Education.
